Chief Deputy WEST BEDGOOD
Chief Deputy West Bedgood is a lifelong resident of Emanuel County and a 2010 graduate of Swainsboro High School. He is the son of David and Angie Bedgood and the youngest of two children.
Shortly after graduating, Chief Deputy Bedgood began his career with the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout his career, he has served in each of the four positions within the Emanuel County Detention Center, gaining extensive knowledge and experience in all facets of detention operations. His progression through every level of the jail has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of corrections management and agency operations.
Chief Deputy Bedgood is a certified Georgia Jailer and Peace Officer. He completed his Jailer Certification at the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and graduated from the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
In November 2020, Chief Deputy Bedgood was appointed Jail Administrator, where he assumed responsibility for the management and daily operations of the Emanuel County Detention Center. In February 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Major, becoming the agency’s third-in-command. In this role, he assisted the Sheriff in the administration and leadership of the Sheriff’s Office while continuing to serve as Jail Administrator.
In April 2026, Chief Deputy Bedgood was promoted to Chief Deputy, making him the second-in-command of the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office. As Chief Deputy, he oversees the agency’s day-to-day operations, supervises personnel, and works closely with the Sheriff to ensure the effective administration of all divisions while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, public service, and public safety.
Chief Deputy Bedgood is married to his wife, Lauren, and together they are the proud parents of three children.
Major CURTIS ARMSTRONG
Curtis Armstrong is a lifelong resident of Emanuel County and the proud son of Curtis “Cobb” and Marilyn Armstrong. His commitment to public service was inspired by his grandfather, who faithfully served the Swainsboro Police Department before retiring in 1976. Following in those footsteps, Curtis has dedicated his life to protecting and serving the citizens of Emanuel County for more than two decades.
At the age of 22, Curtis began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer with the Swainsboro Police Department. Through hard work, professionalism, and dedication, he advanced through the ranks and retired in 2015 as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of distinguished service.
In 2000, Curtis was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Garfield, becoming the youngest police chief to serve in the State of Georgia at that time. He continues to proudly serve the City of Garfield as its Chief of Police, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to public safety and community service.
Curtis earned his Georgia Law Enforcement Certification through Armstrong Atlantic State University and has continued to build an accomplished career in law enforcement. During his tenure with the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, he has served in numerous leadership and operational capacities, including Patrol Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, Traffic Unit Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain.
In April 2026, Sheriff Jeffrey Brewer appointed Curtis to the rank of Major, making him the third-in-command of the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office. In this role, he works closely with the Sheriff and Chief Deputy to oversee daily operations, provide strategic leadership, and ensure the agency continues to deliver the highest level of professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Emanuel County.
Major Armstrong is married to his wife, Kellie, and together they are the proud parents of five children. His dedication to faith, family, and public service continues to guide his leadership and commitment to the community he has proudly called home his entire life.
